Covid-19 Relief
Due to Strict Coronavirus Measures, Many In India Suffering Hunger
Strict COVID-19 lockdowns and other response measures have been devastating to the poor in India. Many poor people live from day to day, working for daily wages with no reserves of food or other necessities. Others, such as leprosy victims, rely on begging to survive. Deprived of income under the lockdowns and facing widespread food shortages, many poor are in very desperate need now.
We at ICII are so very thankful to the Lord and to our loving supporters whose generous giving has allowed us to take food to many poor families, individuals, and leprosy colonies.
Residents of leprosy colonies are facing very severe hardship during the COVID-19 pandemic. The residents of most colonies lack sufficient food even during the best of times, and many often must go out and beg in the hopes of getting enough to eat. Now the colonies are strictly closed, and no one is allowed to leave. Because of the current situation, many leprosy colonies don’t have enough food.
"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof."
Psalms 46: 1-3
COVID-19 Impacting India
We at ICII are so very thankful to the Lord and to our loving supporters whose generous giving has allowed us to take food to many poor families, individuals, and leprosy colonies.
As the effects of COVID-19 on India continue on, most whom we have helped in the past are in need again, and there are many more whose savings and food reserves have become exhausted and now they are in desperation with nowhere to turn. It is our prayer that we can continue to be an instrument that the Lord will use to bring help and hope to the needy during this crisis.
ICII’s COVID-19 food outreach program provides a pack of necessary food items to a needy family or individual for a cost of only $20. We can bring food to an entire leprosy colony in India for $400.
Here is a testimony from a believer whose family received food through ICII's outreach:
“I accepted Jesus five years ago. We are daily-wage workers. We have six people in our family. If I don’t go to work, we can’t eat. I work in the market selling vegetables every day. Also I will sell vegetables in the street from a basket. But after the virus started, I was unable to go to work. I was worried how we are going to eat. Every day, we use a little bit of rice for a one-time meal. But one day God sent ICII's pastors to my house. They gave me rice so that my family can eat. Thank you so much for providing for my needs. We are praying for you. We know that Jesus will never leave us or forget us in our lives. Thank you!”
This testimony is from a government leprosy colony where our missionaries provided rice:
“After the virus lockdown in our area, the government [officers] came. They sealed our colony. They made a signboard that says ‘Restricted area’. No one can come in, no one can go out. We have been surviving because people like you gave us food. After the virus situation started we were eating only one meal a day. We didn’t have enough medicine. We were suffering a lot. But the pastor from ICII came to our colony and told us that God has provided for our needs with a month’s worth of rice so that we don’t have to starve. We are so thankful for your timely help for us. We felt Jesus came to us and touched us today. Now we know that Jesus never forgets us. Thank you so much for providing for our needs. We are also praying for all of you!”
