Renew Freedom Center
New Life For At-Risk Young Women
At Independent Church in India, our vision for all young women is that they should have the opportunity to learn the truth about the Lord Jesus Christ, who died to free them from sin and hell. They should know that each and every one of them was created to be a highly valued and deeply beloved daughter of God, who should never be forced or deceived into becoming merchandise for someone's pleasure or profit.
The Renew Freedom Center’s mission is to make our vision of freedom and value for all young women become reality for girls who were rescued from human trafficking. The Center was established as a shelter for up to fifty young women who were set free from exploitation or trafficking. Here, we provide a loving, Christ-centered home, and a warm, caring, and nurturing environment that is focused on helping its residents to discover and develop the potential in each of their young lives - something they have never had before.
At the Center, the girls experience what it means to be truly free. Here, all their needs are met. They get three nutritious meals every day. They are taught the Word of God, and each girl is encouraged to begin and grow in her own personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.
Human trafficking is a horrendous evil in our world today. Its sheer scale is staggering. ICII’s Renew Freedom Center empowers girls who have been victimized by trafficking in India by laying a solid foundation in Christ in their lives, and bring them lifelong freedom, love, healing, and hope for a bright future.
Renew Freedom Center is way more than just a place to live - its a whole new life!
A Light in a Dark Place
Preventing Human Trafficking!
In India, life can be unimaginably hard, especially for girls and young women born into poverty-stricken low-caste rural communities. To many of them, exploitation for labor, compulsory child marriages or prostitution is just a sad fact of everyday life, simply the way things are for girls of their status in their cruel and uncaring world. The Renew Freedom Center is all about providing girls with a way out from the overshadowing dread of inevitable exploitation that looms over their lives.
The Renew Freedom Center provides far more than food and shelter. Residents have free access to:
- Christ-centered counseling
- Healing from physical, sexual, and emotional abuse
- Medical care
- Legal intervention to protect their rights
- Skill-based courses to help them overcome social and economic barriers

The Freedom Center Story
For years, Independent Church In India's indigenous missionaries have had a deep sadness for the plight of young people, especially girls, in the villageswhere they minister. In 2020, on the initiative of several of our missionaries, ICII started our Freedom Center project to gather groups of around 25 or so at-risk or exploited children in the most trafficking-prone areas with the goal of teaching them that there is a better way to live, and hope for a much brighter future. At these village Freedom Centers, the desperately poor and often malnourished kids get a nutritious snack.
They are introduced to schooling through basic literacy teaching, which is unknown to most of them. They are taught ways of, and the necessity of, avoiding traffickers and their tricks and snares.
Each child gets to learn from the Bible, hear the Gospel, and have the opportunity to receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.
The Renew Freedom Center is the longtime vision of dedicated ICII's indigenous missionaries. As they worked to spread the Gospel among remote villages, Leprosy villages, gypsy villages in southern India, their heart was devastated by the suffering of the many abused and exploited girls and young women they saw in these communities. By faith, one of ICII's missionary and his wife took 17 desperately needy girls under their own care, trusting God to provide. His vision was to one day establish a residence where the girls could not only live free from exploitation, but could learn skills so that they find real paying jobs and a better future life
After years of prayer and hard work, God fulfilled his fervent desire as construction began on the Renew Freedom Center in late 2023. The Center went into operation in the summer of 2024, when fifty freed young women made it their new home.
Making a Difference
“I came from an 'untouchable' caste. My entire family lived in slavery, and we washed clothing for the whole village to get money so we could eat each day. We worked as bonded laborers in the field in the hot sun. I faced many terrible situations and abuse when I lived in the village. Often, I felt no meaning in my life. All I saw was darkness around me, and brokenness filled my life. Because of fear, I had many sleepless nights. I was desperate to escape from the village, and I cried to God to send someone into my life. God sent the Freedom Center to save me! Now I feel secure about my life here and so much freedom and love of Jesus here. I dreamed of learning nursing and computer skills, so I am happy to be living at the Freedom Center!"
