Equipping for Evangelism
“Lord, send me to the unreached souls! Jesus, please use my whole life for your Gospel!” How many meetings have you been in where cries like this echo in your ears as a whole roomful of God’s people, kneeing down with hands outstretch to heaven and tears streaming down their faces, call out desperately to God in prayer for the lost? This was the scene during each of Independent Church in India’s (ICII’s) evangelism seminars this year, as Pastor Britto, Kathy and I (Lowell) met with pastors and committed believers at different areas in India.
ICII’s evangelism seminars are intended to impress on all Christians the importance of every believer sharing the gospel with others, stir up a sense of urgency and compassion for the lost in their hearts, and equip them to share their faith the Biblical way. We also show how preaching the Gospel is an emergency by showing the dramatization of the plight of the unbeliever in hell for eternity which resulted in dozens of men and women on their knees in tears at all the seminars to recommit their lives to the work of the Gospel in India. All the believers leave the seminar with ICII’s powerful book on “Equipping for Evangelism” that they can study at home. In India, many believers tend to leave the task of evangelism entirely to their overworked pastors or Christian leaders, so we encourage pastors to pass on the seminar teachings to their congregations so that more Christians will be emboldened to become witnesses for Christ. Many pastors have given us reports that because of the seminars ICII held last year, lots of their church members have been out doing evangelism, and whole churches have become fired up for the Gospel.
Many of the pastors and leaders are requesting more books so they can teach how to do evangelism in their own churches. One pastor who attended one of the seminars shared;
“This is the best book I have ever read on how to do evangelism. I need more copies of this book so I can teach others in my church to preach the gospel. So far through your seminar and this book there are already thirty believers in my church who have such a burden to preach the gospel and they going out in teams to evangelize!”
Of all of ICII’s recent activities, we feel that the evangelism seminar project is one of the most exciting and fruitful for God’s kingdom.
